Review

A routine trick at a man’s apartment propels a cynical hustler into a series of strange and life-changing encounters in this stunningly photographed drama from San Francisco-based Joseph Graham. Tall and lanky with a mop of unruly dark hair, the young man makes for an attractive prostitute – handsome in body, amiable in personality and efficient in sex. He’s just out to make a buck, one guy at a time. But this coldly efficient rent boy begins to look at himself in a different way one stormy night when he finds himself lost in a maze-like apartment building. The evening begins with a tryst with a beefy but timid man unused to gay sex. Their “session” becomes surprisingly tender for both. But time is money, and he’s off – that is, he’d be off if he could find the exit. His unexpected odyssey leads him to a series of encounters: there is one with a “straight” guy with issues; a cocaine-fueled queen who thinks he knows him; an older man, hidden away in a leaky attic apartment who assists him on his journey; and a lonely young man who thinks he’s finally found a connection with someone. Sex is the commonality, but out of that commodity comes raw, unguarded emotions for all, even for the hustler. It's Actually a Real Movie

Yes!! This is a real movie, and a thumpin' good one, too. Loved the dialogue, and cannot believe how good the acting is. Most gay films don't make me proud to be gay -- it's as if people who have been told all their lives that they're second-class citizens can only make movies that are similarly second-class. This one's different. It's almost disorienting -- you're expecting to cringe, you're waiting for wooden acting, and then you realize it: that feeling running through you is...oh, God...emotion! You're not embarrassed, you're elated! This thing's really, honestly good.

Over the course of one long, rainy night a hustler with a heart of coal will play many parts to earn some change and leave a maze of an apartment complex. Every encounter he has is different. The hustler, with his ever changing names and personalities, plays various roles such as tender lover, long-lost friend, a daddy lover and even a closeted straight guy. Each encounter leads him toward self-realization of what he really wants and desires instead of what he's projecting for his Johns. The film has some surprisingly witty dialogue and it's not overly done. Ben Bonenfant plays the main character and is very believable in each role he assumes, that is until the very end. Still, I definitely would've enjoyed seeing more encounters from the charming main character.

Good acting. Great plot. Fantastic ending.

This story is much more than just about hustling, sex and attractive male casting. The story is about one young man's enlightenment from what he has had to learn on his own to survive to the greater instinct and purpose that drives us: love.

This film will inspire you. If you have forgotten in your life, this film will remind you what you are missing or maybe, what you have taken for granted.

i have recently been watching moives which reviews gay life in a dramatic since with a strong story line and great acting and only have come across a few. it seems that all love drama storys which covers gay males end with one or both of them dead or some unbelivable ending. finally a strong story line that has great acting and ending. watch this film its beautifully done.

I just wanted to say I as blown away by this film. The story line was amazing, the acting was fantastic, and the cinematography was phenomenal! It has been a while since I saw a gay film that made me want to write a review or suggest it to a friend, and I've already purchased a copy for my best friend. Keep up the GREAT work.
