When Scott Heim burst onto the scene in 1996, he did it with one of the most authentic and haunting gay novels, Mysterious Skin.
Heim grew up in a small Kansas farming town and went on to earn a B.A. in English and Art History and an M.A. in English Literature from the University of Kansas. He went on to attend the M.F.A. program in Writing at Columbia University where he wrote his first novel, Mysterious Skin, published by Harper Collins in 1996. In 1997 he followed with another novel, In Awe.
An incredibly talented poet he has also authored a book of poems, Saved from Drowning. His latest novel, We Disappear, has been lauded as one of the best books of 2008 and garnered him a Lambda Literary Award for best fiction.
Heim and his boyfriend currently reside in Boston, MA.
