A documentary that follows the making of the cast album of the Broadway hit musical The Producers. The sold-out show received a record 12 Tony awards this year and has ticket sales of over $1 million a week. Recording The Producers has no footage of the live performance. Instead it captures Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick and others record the 14 songs from the show for the cast album. Director/writer/songwriter Mel Brooks speaks to the camera to set up each song. The recording and film were shot in one day following the Chicago run and before NYC rehearsals began.
