Synopsis

Well this revolutionary TV series has wrapped up and gay television addicts ask "what's next?" The explosive final season includes a performance by Cyndi Lauper and tons of drama to wrap up the five year run. The legendary tenth episode where Cyndi Lauper performs and there is a "Melrose Place" type bombing must be seen to be believed!

Review

Episode One -- Michael (Hal Sparks) throws a surprise 10th anniversary party for Melanie (Michelle Clunie) and Lindsay (Thea Gill) but the evening doesn't quite turn out as planned. Justin's (Randy Harrison) stay in Hollywood is extended, in turn affecting his relationship with Brian (Gale Harold). At Ted's (Scott Lowell) suggestion, Brian invests his Kinnetik profits in a new venture.
Episode Two -- Brian re-opens Babylon but the party boys have disappeared. Justin returns to Pittsburgh after the studio pulls the plug on "Rage." Michael decides to pursue custody of his daughter, Jenny Rebecca. Behind closed doors, Ted pursues a new look after a recent fling turns out to be a chubby chaser. Emmett (Peter Paige) lands a role in front of the camera as Pittsburgh's resident "Queer Guy" on the local news.
Episode Three -- Brian and Michael grow further apart as Brian struggles to save Liberty Avenue from gentrification and Michael embraces domestic life. The street may never be the same when Debbie (Sharon Gless) decides to retire from the diner and newcomer Loretta Pye (Rosie O'Donnell) takes over.
Episode Four -- Brian remains steadfast in his belief that marriage is the death of a relationship. Debbie has a difficult time accepting her role as a lady of leisure-especially when she discovers that Loretta has stolen her act including the button-clad vest right down to the wisecracks. Ted decides to undergo an extreme makeover.
Episode Five -- Brian has news to share with Justin and all of his former partners. Loretta reveals her true feelings of love for Debbie. Lindsay drops out of the custody battle over Jenny Rebecca while Hunter (Harris Allan) considers returning to the streets after being kicked off the swim team and ostracized by the kids at school. Post cosmetic surgery, Ted attempts to drop out of the social scene.
Episode Six -- Brian's reign as hottest man at Babylon is challenged by the new stud, Brandon (Ryan Scott Greene). Although a huge success as the "Queer Guy," Emmett faces a challenge of his own when he realizes he's been hired as a clown for the network's ratings. Ted, a new man after his cosmetic surgery, has an opportunity for revenge on an old flame. Ben (Robert Gant) and Michael attempt to help Hunter lift his spirits and get back to school. Bored as a lady of leisure, Debbie finds herself back at the diner.
Episode Seven -- Proposition 14 threatens same sex couple's rights while Brian deals with the threat of Brandon's presence in his world. Justin's decision to move out of Brian's loft creates a rift between Brian and Michael. Ted struggles to remember he's with Troy (Lee Rumohr) only in order to exact revenge. Lindsay decides to give her parents a chance and moves back home with her son, Gus.
Episode Eight -- Justin lands himself in jail for standing up against Proposition 14 and his own father. Brian and Brandon work their way down the list of the ten hottest guys in their competition to determine the real stud of Babylon. Ben grieves Hunter's departure. Melanie and Lindsay attempt an in-house separation while Emmett's stalker reveals himself.
Episode Nine -- The gang fights against Proposition 14. Michael and Brian still aren't speaking to each other while Lindsay and Melanie's in-house separation heats up. Drew (Matt Battaglia) finally comes out. Ted begins his quest for his Mr. Right.
Episode Ten -- Cyndi Lauper makes a guest appearance as Babylon plays host to the Stop Prop14 Benefit - an event that changes everyone's lives.
Episode Eleven -- Brian reevaluates his priorities after the bombing of Babylon. Michael continues to recover in the hospital, and a Liberty Avenue vigil for the victims ends in chaos.
Episode Twelve -- Brian and Justin are getting married! Melanie and Lindsay plan on moving the family to Canada-to raise Gus and Jenny Rebecca in a country where they won't be humiliated because of their parents' sexual orientation. Ted may have finally found his Mr. Right. Emmett catches Drew with another man.
Episode Thirteen -- Brian and Justin prepare to marry. Lindsay and Melanie move to Canada. Michael's asked to represent the Committee for Human Rights. Ted sees his relationship with Tad (Ben Bass) for what it really is. The beat of Babylon continues...

  It Was Ok

D. wrote on 08/05/2006:

To Be Honest The Ending Kind Of Made Me Mad in a Way... Sorry this is going to spoil the ending for all you guys who have not seen the final episode. It Made Cry That Brian and Justin Ended Up Not getting married because towards their wedding they decided that neither one of them was happy that the other was sacrificing their life for the other which is totally true. Also justin said that they didnt need rings or vows to prove to eachother that they love one another which is true so justin moves to new york to do his art thing and brian stays in pittsburgh. Thats not what made me sad though , Its the fact that during the final scene Michael Takes Brian to whats Left of bombed Bablyon and they get on the dancing platform and dance to nothing then the room starts spinning and babylon has been re-opened the proud song is playing but its remixed which is awesome and its also the song thy played in the first episode but alas you see everyone else dancing with someone , Michael With Ben, Emmet with some other guy And ted with BLake. And it made me sad to see brian dancing alone, i did realize though that even though justin was gone they made another deal not to forget eachother and love eachother blahblahblah but then agin brian was a huge asshole to justin most of the time so karma right? well anyways all in all its was an ok ending...

Missing It Forever

Diva4Ever wrote on 07/19/2006:

I keep praying that the gods grant my wish for a reunion. Finally there was a show that 'showed' it all, without apology and without regret. I still watch the DVDs on Sunday nights because nothing else compares. The characters were real, I have friends who mirrored several of the characters.

Emmett is a brilliant actor and I wish his character had more substance in the last season. Justin and Brian, I am glad Justin moved on....how many of us actually stay with our first love. Don't know if I would have send the lesbians off to Canada, but one thing is for sure, they would have be sent off to somewhere on this planet.

So I will continue to say my prayers to the Gods, grant my wish of a reunion because nothing compares. The writers did a great job with this one...now if only they could provide some guidance to the team responsible for the "L Word".

Thank God Its Over!!

MrE wrote on 06/27/2006:

If not for the sex and hot looks of some of the cast, the acting of Hal Sparks, Sharon Gless and Peter Paige this senseless drivel never would have made it. The British version, though devoid of the beautiful faces and bigger budget, was and is far better if a gay soap with merit is your thing. Our U.S. version is a pale imitation. Written poorer than the worst episode of a short lived daytime soap, this dreck carried young gay men for far too many seasons. While a handful of the older cast members not named above seemed to improve their characterizations over time, the younger ones were as cardboard from the get go as they were to the end. Why did I keep watching? I kept hoping it could rise to the level of a Tales of the City or comparable well written, well acted and well directed films or series. But no, it never rose above mediocrity despite all efforts of those trying. The best we as a community can hope for is this sort of crap can be relagated to the indie market. If Hollywood wants to reach us on a large scale, try quality not sensationalism, schmaltzy glitz and tired storylines, barely acted and definitely not directed, by those worthy of consideration by the serious film and telvision industry.

  Great Sadness

ModelKid wrote on 06/15/2006:

I for one loved how the series ended. Most people don't like the fact of how things were presented in terms of relationships ending, solidifying, etc. But, I loved it all on its own. The fact that Justin moves on is brilliant. Most of us would have never expected that. But, it works-- Brian was his first true love. How many of us have been there? Only to realize in the end, it was finally, this time for good, the moment we needed to move on and grow for ourselves? We have all felt that kind of confused heartbreak... unsure of what to do, but knowing it had to be done... Brian, on a pedestal above the crowds of Babylon... alone... not the focus of everyone's attention. He has stayed in his NEVERLAND-- where he will never grow-up. He is the Peter Pan many gay guys try to become or already are... surrounded by crowds of people, yet alone... never growing up and moving on to bigger and better things. The bombings, the darkness, everything-- great. I think most people just like a happy ending. And, with this season, there are some happy endings and there are some downright sad endings... Take it or leave it, but I felt this was a great way to end the series...

  I'm OK With This!

SilverSnake wrote on 06/13/2006:

I had been warned the last season was too dark and would underwhelm me, besides. But I LOVED it! My one complaint is that a few things happened too fast in the last two episodes (I think Emmett deserved a bit more meaty resolution), but I loved the Justin-Brian finale . . . I'm still writing the ending different ways in my head. I've not seen the alternate ending yet (I'm letting everything settle and I need to get my life back), but I kinda liked it the way it was. I'm gonna miss those guys!
