"Queer as Folk" is unquestionably the gay cultural phenomena of the new millennium. The master behind the scenes is Russell Davies, the writer who created the characters who have captivated the queer world for two years. Showtime, with incredible wisdom, produced a Queer as Folk soap opera that could conceivably run forever, with characters we can all identify with. The American Queer as Folk is set in a mythical Pittsburgh - it's not West Hollywood or the West Village - it's a blue collar city where gay people co-exist with straight - just like where most of us live (it’s actually filmed in Toronto, Canada).

Brian (Gale Harold) is the gay man in the cast most despised and lusted after. He's rich, arrogant, self-absorbed and a total hunk. Michael (Hal Sparks), is his best friend. He, like all the guys, lusts after Brian. Michael is a working-class department store manager, even-tempered and loved by all. Justin (randy Harrison) is 17, still in high school and totally adorable (the whole cast is actually). Justin is also in love with Brian - but alas they are only "fuck buddies". Lindsay (Thea Gill) is the mother of Brian's son (artificial insemination of course). She's a house mom who is dedicated to her baby and sometimes to her lover Melanie (Michelle Clunie). Melanie is a lawyer, she's Jewish and a very combative, soft butch. Ted (Scott Lowell) is an accountant who in search of love has met a club boy with a crystal meth problem. Emmett (Peter Paige) is his super fag best friend who tries to steer innocent Ted clear of trouble. Debbie (Sharon Gless) is Michael's mother and the waitress at their favorite diner. Debbie is PFLAG personified, covered in buttons - she worships her gay son and all his friends - she's the show cheerleader.

This American/British/Canadian creation is soap opera at its finest. Characters we can call our own, great drama and romance - and the cast is real easy on the eyes!

This series will go down in the history of the Gay Screen as the Prima Donna of all Gay Series of all times! It has set the pace, standard, and quality for all future series of this genere. Throughout all five seasons, the total dedication was ever present to these levels. Only Dante's Cove has approached such levels. If you do not own a copy for your Collection, you best order it now!! Utterly, Utterly, Beautiful!! And for you sex addicts, extremely erotic inplaces.
