Synopsis

The French artist duo Pierre et Gilles, who masterfully alternate between provocation, kitsch and art for 30 years, shows us gods in all their complexity: caught and unmasked, lascivious and playful. The images lurk between paradise and ecstasy - sensuality and desire. In this perverse and playful gallery of portraits, Pierre et Gilles give us Adam and Eve next to Venus, Krishna, Satan, Bacchus, Jesus and Buddha. And because they approach this subject matter seriously, these images are accompanied by informative texts by the religious scholar Odon Vallet. Nina Hagen, Catherine Deneuve, Rupert Everett, Jean-Paul Gaultier and Naomi Campbell are just some of the "divine bodies" of this rare out-of-print book from the world-renowned Pierre et Gilles.
