It's hard to believe that the vibrator was invented by a desperate doctor, tired of expending all of the time and energy required to relieve "difficult" women of their neurotic tendencies. His special technique of manual stimulation was very popular. It seemed the patients never showed any signs of long-term improvement, but they certainly loved the treatments! Eventually vibrators became portable, and companies like Sears Roebuck freely displayed them in their catalogs. Directors Slick and Omori's playful documentary presents the evolution of this magical device — from something looking like a torture table to the imaginatively colored, textured and battery-powered devices of today. The film also explores the long-standing double standard surrounding women and their sexuality. Would it surprise you to know that until very recently, it was illegal to sell vibrators in Texas, but that Viagra has always been readily available anywhere in the state? If you are a champion of "girl power," then you might learn a thing or two and have some laughs along the way while watching this unconventional offering. But please remember to put all phones, pagers, and other devices on "vibrate" before the film starts!
