Review

A "yupwardly mobile" couple (Modine, Griffith) pool their resources to purchase and renovate a large Victorian home (complete with two rental units) in an upscale San Francisco neighborhood. Enter Keaton as sociopath Carter Hayes, a tenant from hell who seems to know that a lodger can do just about anything to his landlords and not be evicted -- including nonpayment of rent and cockroach breeding. An infuriating blend of "who says life is fair anyway" legal procedures and sweaty-palm psychological warfare, and the film really doesn't work on either level.
