Manuel has always felt that he was Manuela and when a crisis happens, he reinvents himself as Manuel. The crisis this time is when Coca, his best friend, becomes pregnant from a one night stand and Manuel poses as her fiancé to avoid scandal.
Manuela (Humberto Busto) has been in a funk ever since her boyfriend left her and she records how she feels on video. She works in a cabaret and keeps her landlord at bay. When her best girl friend discovers that she is pregnant from a one night stand, Manuela becomes Manuel and acts as Coca’s fiancé. She has had to use her male side in order to impress Coca’s parents. The plot is screw ball comedy which is really farce and because of this it is quite hard to take the movie seriously. Director Raul Marchand Sanchez seems to be trying to say something about the fantasies that we create for ourselves because reality is too harsh or because we will not take responsibility.
The plot is simple but there is not enough story to support a full length movie. There are many comical moments and several sensitive ones as well. We do not look at gender but rather at the complete character and the story ends up being totally zany. Yes this movie is fluff but it is fun fluff and although you may not remember anything about it, you have a good time watching it.
