For his legions of fans, this Jack Wrangler performance film will be essential. As a stand-alone piece of entertainment it's not all that compelling. Combining stand-up comedy, a few songs and a strip show was probably more than anyone expected at this Saugatuck Michigan resort appearance, but the audience seemed to love it, and we found it strangely appealing. Bijou Classics of Chicago has dug out these "Male Entertainment Network" cable TV shows from the '80s and our history has been preserved for your delectation.

The DVD begins with an unusual video collage of early Wrangler photos and a humorous narration. At its conclusion, Mr. Wrangler nervously takes to the casual outdoor stage and engages the audience in a dialogue that doesn't quite work. He also sings a few songs with recorded background. After reading Wrangler's bio we learned that musical theater is his first love – kind of a surprise for the star of the classic macho porn Kansas City Trucking Co.! It was impossible for him to take to the legitimate stage after his porn career so these appearances were the only forum for his true passion. Next up is a performance with a volunteer from the audience. The sexy guy goes a little farther than Wrangler expected, but it's lots of racy fun. The show concludes with what all the boys were waiting for – a strip-tease. Wrangler prefaces his strip by telling the audience that he can't dance. These are true words, but the man means well. There is a nice nude scene, but of course fans of '70s gay porn have seen Wrangler's goods many times before!

Jack Wrangler is a macho gay porn legend. This performance film might dispel that myth! This is man who loved musical theater and married jazz singer Margaret Whiting. Supposedly when Wrangler told her he was gay, her reply was "Only around the edges, dear." While he's macho acting through the whole performance, one feels there's a nelly boy who wants to escape. Enjoy, we did!
