Synopsis

A young man reaches a critical juncture in his life. Does he follow the mob - his friends since childhood - and join blindly in the persecution of a group of people based solely on their sexual orientation, or does he move to a more enlightened life?

In the Company of Strangers is an award-winning film which has moved audiences at film festivals and has won the top award at five. It is a touching feature film debut from writer/producer/director Thomas Hofbauer. In the Company of Strangers has been chosen as the closing feature presentation for the NewFilmmakers Winter Fest 2010 in New York City.

It's the story of a young man in trouble with the law who is sentenced to 600 hours of community service in an AIDS hospice. There it is hoped he will learn tolerance and compassion. While there, he helps to reconcile a dying man with his estranged son. At the same time, the young man reconnects with his own distant father.
