Review

We love this light-hearted send-up of all the macho sports movies your straight friends forced you to see. Ecki is a sweet, closeted gay man who works in his family’s bakery and plays goalie in his small town’s soccer team. When he both loses the big game, and is caught flirting with another player, his homophobic teammates throw him out. He vows to return one day with an all-gay team that will grind the heteros into the dust, so he sets off to find his “dream team.” With the help of his nurse sister, Ecki scours local gay bars and eventually assembles a hilariously motley but endearing crew of misfits that includes a leather-daddy threesome, a femme Turk with Beckham fantasies, a secret straight guy in love with the sister, and a seriously cute nurse eager for some private play-time with the goalie. Ecki now has two problems – turning this bunch into a team, and facing his own fears regarding his first romance.

The final game is a delicious clash of straight machismo and gay fabulousness that will have you both laughing and cheering down to the final showdown. (German with English subtitles)

This is what film making is all about!! Something that is entertaining yet thought provoking with a underlying message that does not distrupt the enjoyment of the film! Seems like the gay themed films have just about cornered the market as far as innoviation goes. Straight films are either pure blood, horror, mayhem, and/or sex, or avante garde, you can not understand, much less watch them. Oh yes, sometimes they make a feeble attempt at comedy! Be sure to purchase this film for your Collection! HOW ABOUT A ALL GAY PROFOOTBALL TEAM?!?!?!?!?!!! DO NOT LEAVE OUT A ALL GAY PROBASKETBALL, PROBASEBALL, PROICE HOCKEY?!?!?!?!!!

I just love this movie! I love everything about Ecki! He was a genuine person in my book.

The movies shows us, though you maybe Gay & persecuted by others. You don't have to be defeated. You can do as Ecki did, and rise above it!

I, also, enjoyed how the film ended, on an uplifting note!

What a sweet movie! Great flick for anyone gay or straight and full of light-hearted laughs,smiles and sneers at the very bad and annoying gay bashing jokes. I recommend it for anyone that can sit through a sub-titled movie

Just saw this movie on DVD and I loved it. I am fluent in German and picked up some of the nuances not in the subtitles. But this movie would be fun for anyone. Ecki and Sven are both cute and make a believable gay couple. Udo (the opposing team captain) is a real POS, so it's fun to boo him and to watch him get his comeuppance. I would have appreciated some deleted scenes or a featurette. A little more nudity would also have been nice, something German films usually don't shy away from. Coming off the World Cup this is a nice little film.

Lovely feel-good film. The adorable Ecki is a great find! Love the fact that just realizing you are gay doesn't give vast insight into gay angst and "lifestyle". Thank God there were no disco queens, opera divas, and that ilk. A movie you could even show to your closer straight friends. And Halleluliah no one gay day-bashed (just a toilet brawl) or had a death scene from Camillle vis-a-vis HIV.
