Raymond wakes up at the bottom of a steep ridge—battered, bruised, and with no memory of how he got there. He cannot remember who he is or where he is. Through sheer willpower, he climbs out and manages to reach Sydney where the Salvation Army helps him to recover and survive.
He is put up at a Salvation Army Hostel for men, taking the name of David. There, he meets Grant, an ex convict and recovering alcoholic who he shares a room with.
Growth of Love is their story. It tells how their love grows, how they survive being a gay couple in the late 70's in Australia, and how, through the death of Raymond's younger brother, they became a family.
The story is based on truth; it uses fiction to offer a more interesting reading, but the happenings to David did occur.
