The Renaissance Faire has come to town! Okay, so the exclamation point doesn't make it any cooler, but Sam is overjoyed to reunite with her former faire folk (say that ten times fast). Bryan, on the other hand, can do without all the "thees," "thous," and -- oh yes -- man tights. But he'd best take part in the festivities lest he lose his head...with Sam doing the chopping.
As if that weren't dramatic enough, someone has discovered Bryan's not-so-closeted secret. And it might be time for Bryan to step of the role he's been playing for years. It's a Malibu drama geek stuck with a wannabe King Arthur's dork...er, court, and he's got a major secret to tell. You don't want to miss the show....
It seems that there is a sudden influx of titles for young adults hitting the market. We here at TLA couldn’t be more pleased. These books are written for young gay people and some of our favorites are the Drama! series by Paul Ruditis (Prison Break, Queer as Folk). Drama! centers on a group of high school friends and drama geeks dealing with everything from the mean girls to their own budding sexuality.
In Show, Don’t Tell the kids find themselves at the Renaissance Faire. As one of Samantha’s best friends, Bryan agrees to go and spend the last days of summer at the faire and to meet her GBF (Gay Best Friend). Enter Marq, dressed as the queen of the faire, and all too comfortable in women’s clothes if you ask Bryan who never thought of his stylish fedora as ‘gay’. So begins the final week of summer vacation.
Drama ensues and friends discover the secrets hidden from a distance over school break. And, of course, there is the villain, Holly who is bound-and-determined to make the drama geeks look like fools when they go head-to-head in a show down of theatrical talent. But who comes out on top? And who just comes out?
This is a great series, and not just for teens. The writing is fun, light and uncomplicated so it makes a perfect afternoon read. We wish we had these books back when we were teens…
