Review

Before Pacino embarrassed himself Cruising leather bars, he gave a first-rate performance as a gay thief whose attempt to rob a bank (to pay for his lover's sex change) brings the city of New York to a standstill.

An often delightful comedy, director Lumet flavors his film with warm characters and deft humor. In supporting roles, Durning as a police liaison and Oscar-nominee Sarandon as Pacino's lover are standouts.
