“Bowser Makes A Movie” (Hornbill Films) is outrageous fun. Two young lovers decide to direct their own gay pornographic film and they find that they must come into contact with a menagerie of people. As we meet these people we realize that we are watching one of the most amusing and entertaining films to enter the gay canon in quite a while.
Bowser throws himself into the gay porn industry because he desperately needs money but the price he pays is quite high. He attempts to mortgage his parents’ house, he becomes involved with the mob, and he has to deal with a wild assortment of people including a militaristic father, a nun who gives away his money and a stranger by the name of Helmut Schwantz Sauger.
Because Bowser needs direction in his life and the fact that his parents are tired of supporting him, he decides that the solution to his problems is to make gay porn. Remembering those old MGM musicals of putting on a show, that is exactly what Bowser tries to do. Nick Louis as 21 year old Bowser steals the movie and although the script wanders and several of the jokes fall flat, he manages to make t all worthwhile. It is his charm and acting ability that makes this movie the little gem that it is.
The opening of the film deals with teen anger, something we all know too well, The entire idea is a bit ridiculous but even with the jerky camera work, Toby Ross manages to make the film work. Sure I have seen better but that does not mean that I cannot enjoy something that is not a blockbuster. There are no classic gay stereotypes, no jaded gays, and no nudity and t still manages to hold interest. “Bowser Makes a Movie” is an innocent coming of age film with a new approach to gay indie films.
I feel that the film is smart and the performances are excellent. As a movie with not a big budget, the production is slick and the vulgar humor we have become so used to is not there.
This is a delightful movie that is obviously made from the heart of Toby Ross. Some of the reviews I read just out and out threw it away. I think they should have another look and re-evaluate the film. I could name some of the faults here but the pluses so outweigh them that it would be pointless. Get a copy and see for yourself.

Great movie to rent or to buy. It is a story that one can relate to in the everyday world of life. It tells a story that you can relate to and you go through the emotions and the struggles of Bowser as he tries all different ways of making his dream come true. Of course I can't give away the ending but I can tell you that you will get wrapped up in this film. Well done to the Cast, Crew, Writer and everyone that was a part of this film.

I saw Bowser Makes A Movie in Chicago when it played at the Film Festival. I truly enjoyed this film and have purchased a copy for my personal library. The film took me from laughing hysterically to breaking out the Kleenex to wipe away some tears. The acting was very good, keep an eye on Nick Louis (Bowser), he will definitely be going places. The acting and directing in this film kept me interested in the storyline for the entire length of the movie. I highly recommend this film and hope there are more Hornbill Films coming out in the near future.

I thought the acting was first class, the jokes were very funny, the plot was a bit of a stretch but considering this was an off the wall comedy I totally bought into it. Actually I enjoyed the extra chapters, Nick Lewis is very charming...you can hire me to make a movie for you any time (I have turned a few heads in my day). Kudos!

Even if this film was meant ironically or sarcastically, it would still be terrible. It makes use of a camera technique that looks like every third frame was removed. I actually liked it for a few minutes because it gave the impression of a live action anime in its hurky-jerky movements. But that grew old. Fast.
Even that has no semblance of consistancy. The technique was used intermittantly with no relevance to what was on screen. The acting is pretty mediocre, although there were moments that showed a little promise. The plot, while possibly trying to be screwball comedy in nature was just screwy. Characters were under-ripe stereotypes, and generally offensive, though only mildly. I purchased this DVD based on the description and the reviews, but after viewing it, all I can surmise is that those who enjoyed it so much were in a state of horniness (which, sadly couldn't have been resolved by this movie) and a bit too much pot. You know, how high schoolers act, where everything strikes them as hilarious. I watched the whole thing, including the smirking interview with the "stars" and the deleted scenes, hoping to get a clue if this movie had a point. It didn't. And the ending.... please, even a third rate sitcom has a resolution better than that. Saturday Night Live at its worst and most self-serving is better than this. Plot: rambled, jumped around, was improbable, was stupid (although the premise showed a lot of promise).

Bottom line, the movie was one big inside joke apparently.The stars & director seemed to love it. But then again, they looked like they may have had a little too much to drink. Actually, Bowser Makes A Movie, made me a little sad.
Don't buy this. Really.
