Synopsis

Taking us through the early days of the fledgling league, Blood On The Flat Track tells the story of the resurgence of roller derby in the U.S. and Seattle's own DIY league, The Rat City Rollergirls. The league is populated by 80+ players who are known to the world almost exclusively by their clever sobriquets. There are about 30 leagues of women’s roller Derbys in the United States now. The form the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association and this movie focuses on the Rat City Rollergirls of Seattle, Washington. They began forming a league in April, 2004 and did so from scratch. They started small with about 200 fans and now they sell 1500 tickets every month that they skate. In the film we look at the team throughout its first two seasons and we meet the women that make up the team.
The film moves along beautifully with fun and humor. It goes straight to the sport that it is covering and we get at first an elementary look that covers everything about the sport. Directors Lacey Leavitt and Lainy Bagwell do themselves proud with this film. The film is passionate as are the people in it and this a documentary that you do not want to miss.
