Synopsis

Beatific Vision is a gay spiritual comedy about getting what you need as opposed to what you think you want. What does Michael do when his lover of fourteen years, Chad, dies from brain cancer? Michael does not have much time to grieve when Chad as an angel immediately comes back to him. Chad has seen Michael's future and now takes it upon himself to guide and nudge Michael along his path. Chad's psychiatrist, Damien, has agreed to support Michael in this process but as hard as Damien tries he cannot deny his infatuation with Michael. The seemingly unrelated "coincidences" begin to fall into steps of Michael's path when cute boy toy Bryan arrives on the scene the night after scattering Chad's ashes. Damien's x-wife, Pat and Michael's best friend, Barbra add to the mix and are also guided by Angel Chad to their destiny. Like a board game, Angel Chad provides just the right amount of clues to Michael to begrudgingly move him towards his ideal future.

All too typical gay movie

The acting is terrible and the story not at all interesting. The only good thing about the movie is that it is short and getting to the end was a major relief. Don't waste your time.

When Michael's lover of fourteen years dies from brain cancer, he does not know what to do. While he is grieving, Chad returns to him as an angel. Chad has seen Michael's future and takes it upon himself to lead and guide Michael on the path. Chad's psychiatrist, Damien, has decided that he will support Michael but as he begins to do so, he realizes that he is infatuated with him. Soon other occurrences begin to hinder Michael. First there is the appearance of Bryan appears and Damian's ex-wife who is Michael's best friend enters Michael's life and they too are taken under Chad's angelic wings but Chad knows just what he has to do.
This is a touching movie especially for those who have lost someone they loved. It gives a comic approach to quite a serious subject. Combining sadness with loss and hope, the acting is excellent and the script is wonderful in this story of gay love and life and death. It may not seem to be a beautiful movie in the beginning but as it progresses it wins the viewer over by reminding us that our eyes are sometimes clouded over by what it only physical beauty. "Beatific Vision" not only entertains but it inspires and gives us something to think about. There is humanity in all of us and the film touches upon it. We see how to let one love go because of death and how to open ourselves to new possibilities since we have experienced love. Moving on and embracing the future are the themes dealt with but it also teaches us to remember the love of the past. It also reminds us of the simplicity of love.
