Synopsis

A reunion of family and friends becomes an unforgettable vacation when two teenage boys discover their secret feelings toward one another. The relationship is eventually exposed to their families - leading to denial and a questioning of self-worth from each of the boys. The exposed relationship brings to light that one of the boys was previously institutionalized for his homosexuality by his older brother.

Review

Beautiful gay teens, hunky straight guys, great scenery at the beach - not much to complain about with this issue oriented drama that faces up strongly and surprisingly erotically to the issue of gay teens. The handsome cast tells an ultimately uplifting tale with aplomb, considering the obviously minute budget. Teenage David and his younger brother travel to his Dad's hometown with their recently separated father. Upon their arrival, Dad renews a friendship with his hunky old buddy, while his teenage brother, Seth, hits it off well with David. The two very cute boys become real close, real fast. They become so bonded that one night the teens get drunk, make a fire on the beach, look into each other's eyes and lock lips. One thing the boys didn't know is that David's younger brother was spying on them and he's not too happy with what he saw. The next day over lunch with the whole tribe the whole story comes out of the closet with the teens. In a truly affirmative spirit Dad embraces his son. A truly worthwhile drama - sort of a queer after-school special!

Coming of age story. Touches on senstive issues. Acting was OK, not great. Sound was severly flawed. Had to crank up the volume and still missed bits of dialog.

When I first saw this fix about two yrs ago, I was in a total state of shock after viewing it. I never had this situation happen to myself, but I watched it develop and unfold in my neighborhood. Somebody, somewhere, said, " Sometimes you have to live the experience in order to understand the consequences!" No truer words were ever said!!!!! What you see in this film, is human life and drama at its very best and very worse. This film will go into a catagory of descriptive human nature along with "Latter Days!" The best description I can give this film is 'Mans inhumanity to man!' I'm sorry but get over come by emotion on this one! This is one film you must add to you collection. THE ACTIONS OF MAN ARE SOMETIMES TOTALLY DESTRUCTIVE TO TRUE LOVE!!!!! NJMJr!!!

Glad to see this title return for sale. Saw it at friends house and I have to say I really enjoyed it. I read some of the other reviews, and sure it's not a big-budget flick, but let's not forget the movie Showgirls.

I have to take exception to the review posted by Jordan below. First off, it's his assumption that the film-going populace knows nothing about what makes a good film. Agreed, most "civilians" don't have a background in film production or critique. But as someone writing a review here, I certainly do... I've acted and written for film, as well as studied film critique extensively and even written a few reviews professionally. That being said, I have to say that nearly all of the negatives pointed out by previous reviewers about "And Then Came Summer" are valid, especially when it comes to the technical aspects of the film. Okay, yes... the film ahs a kind edge which is admirable. But there really isn't much of a story here. The bottom-line is that you needn't be employed in the entertainment industry to know a mediocre film when you see one. And, speaking as a gay man, I don't feel that it's enough to simply scrape together a budget and make a "gay film." The product will be something appealing only to gay people. Imagine, strictly for example, if someone produced a film simply about being african-american or Jewish or whatever minority you'd like to fill in this blank with. The result might make a decent documentary, but, as a work of fiction, it would just be dull. Likewise for "And Then Came Summer." A good movie comes from a lot more than just having a good idea.

Not a masterpiece

La actuacion de todos en general es pesima, pero se puede perdonar, pues la intencion del director es buena. Los adultos (padre y hermano de los adolescentes) son mucho mas interesantes y harian mejor el papel de amantes ellos dos. Una pelicula lenta y no muy profesional, por lo tanto no vale la inversion, mejor esperar a rentarla o a que pase en cable. Sin embargo esta de verse, entretenida, especialmente para publico gay.
