This film is as so many reviewers have said, not like the product that the cliche driven industry has normally produced. This is definitely a comedy, but with very serious undertones. I have actually seen this scenerio played out in reality. This can give the average movie-goer an insight to gay-romance and all of its pitfalls. I found it very entertaining and yet informative in very realistic terms. I would like to thank HBO for showing it in its regular retinue of movies. There is not much more I can say - a straight acting guy who is gay looking for love and finding love is not about sex mad attraction and you can be moved and loved by someone you least expect. Finding love and being scared of love and rejecting it. this film deals with straight love and shows when it comes to love we all go through the same things and love is love. I loved it and rate it fab. It was great to see Greta from Dawsons Creek and many other celebs with bit parts.

As my subject heading reads, I think one of the greatest reliefs about this film is that it has no angst about gayness, probably owing to the fact that the writer/producer/star Dan Bucatinsky is a relaxed gay artist. We take for granted that relationships composed of all gender combinations are the facts of life that they are. The dialogue is often hilarious and the film works well on the whole. It is definitely something to which I'd return more than once.

The only thing that stretches one's credulity is the proposition that the "Tom" character, played so well by Richard Ruccolo, can seriously be thought capable of any kind of long-term relationship, given his history, and the rest of the film. After all the ups and downs, the "happy ending" easily seems like it could be another in a series of failed attempts between the two principals.

Evidently, an extended ending was filmed which shows the two main characters together after a year, but it was deleted before release. This "alternate ending" is provided as an extra on the DVD, but at least on my copy, it is only available with a commentary track, so one can never hear the dialogue. To anyone reading this, I'd be grateful to know if there's any way of accessing the alternate ending with the dialogue rather than the commentary.

This really was a very good movie - well scripted, great acting and above all a movie movie viewers can honestly connect to. Do yourself a favor and purchace. Very funny, caring and loving.

Usually I just rent the films that interest me, but this one is a keeper. I had to buy it so I could rewatch it whenever I needed a romantic boost. The story is fascinating. We see two very different couples, one straight and one gay, as they go through all the stages that lead to full blown committment. As in real life, one couple has an easy road to travel and the other a rocky one. The characters are diverse and the acting outstanding by all concerned, including the secondary characters. By the time the credits roll you'll be wiping away a tear with a big ole smile on your face. Don't forget to check out the great extras that come with the DVD.
