What a pleasant and funny surprise. This movie is a delight, especially if you're a fan of gutsy, exploitation genre Tarantino-style films. The shoestring budget didn't get in the way of this clever movie.

What some may pass off as a “low-budget film” makes up big in personality. For those who often enjoy the quirks of what the Indie film world has to offer, they will certainly not be disappointed in “Aaron….Albeit a Sex Hero”. The director’s sense of humor and the characters’ personality light up the plot of a normal guy amongst abnormal circumstances. Aaron’s (Matthew Charles Burnett) normalcy and contempt for his mundane job is relatable almost instantly, giving the plot its chance to win over the audience’s undivided attention. Stuck in his job as a tour bus driver, his self-loathing humor establishes him as a likeable guy and with that, creates a plot that is far more entertaining than those surrounding suck-ups and martyrs. The only hope for Aaron to pass the time comes when Jesse (Rafiel Soto), a Latino man new to the bus-driving world, enters his life. From then, the plot takes off and captivates its audience in a multiplicity of superb circumstances.

While Aaron’s character is the center of the movie, he is only elevated by a thrilling plot and a crowd of other relatable characters. The storyline is full of action, humor, and unexpected situations complete with lust, love, and a lot of Texas heat. The supporting cast is no less entertaining. The assembly of women following Aaron and Jesse bring about a whole other layer to the movie’s identity. Additonally, some fresh new faces grace the Indy movie scene via the film: Polly, played by Connie Maynord, does not differ from the quirkiness the film offers. Her character as an eccentric tour guide along for the ride with Aaron provides her own set of twist and turns in the plot. Her humor and personality are just as relatable at those who are in the lead and with that, we can truly enjoy watching the trouble she causes. Her likeable and detailed demeanor reminds us of those funny moms we love to joke with everything Thanksgiving. The harmonious balance between the women in the cast and the main men makes for a soothing connection between audience and cast.

Overall, the movie holds true to the entertainment the title promises. Don’t be fooled by its independence; it is as developed as those who play their parts.

Poor Aaron is having a bad day. He's on his last day of a lousy job. That crappy job has him hosting old ladies who "dress" like old movie stars to sites around Austin Texas that have been used in movie shoots. The new van driver is a creep. His company's boss is about to be revealed as a drug smuggler. The boss's henchmen are trying to kill him. Worse yet, his grandmother has decided she wants to toodle along in the van on Aaron's last day on the job. And things are about to get worse.

That's the setting for writer/producer/director Paul Bright's (Theft, Angora Ranch) new movie, the quirky crime caper "Aaron, Albeit a Sex Hero." Aaron (Matthew Charles Burnette) simply wants to finish a day's work so he can start a new job with a cruise line. Instead, he has to fight to escape drug runners, scorpions, rattlesnakes, spiders and Jessie, the new driver who is in on the trafficking. Oh yes, and to not embarrass himself in front of his grandmother...who is having a secret affair with one of the van travelers!

"Aaron..." dodges the usual gay-movie cliches in that Aaron is hunky but no James Bond. He's already come out, so there's no endless angst about "is he or isn't he?" Nobody here is a crazed interior decorator or show-tune queen. In fact, at just under 90 minutes, this movie moves at a rapid clip with little wasted space. Aaron has one night to make everything right, and maybe get his rocks off. "Aaron...Albeit a Sex Hero" is a fun watch, with both Matthew Charles Burnette and Rafiel Soto (who plays Jessie and is one hunky bad guy) are solid in their leads and make the best of this low-budget treat.

Saw "Aaron last night and again I am amazed at Paul Bright's work....what his vision brings to fruition. Owning the last 2 releases by Bright (Theft, Angora Ranch) I am pleased to add this latest movie by Bright to my collection. Sure, low budget means your not going to view Spielberg, but what I continuously find with Paul's movies are entertaining,well written movies with heart, humor and good old fashioned fun. Take a chance on this one, you'll get hooked and join the group of us movie lovers who "GET IT!!!" Jeff

Aaron Morgan has had a really bad day. His dead-end job offers no solace and to make matters worse, he is stung by a scorpion, attacked by a rattlesnake, kidnapped and chased by gun-toting maniacs, mesmerized by a new co-worker and then forced to endure a busload of old ladies wearing lots of perfume. Nothing goes his way. It’s just a day in the life of Aaron.
Aaron hates his job and he has already done a lot in his life—most of which he does not like. When he finally decides it is time to quit his job—he has had too much—a really hot guy starts to work there. With his luck the way it has been going, Aaron doesn’t know what to expect from the new hire and herein lays the problem. This is the new film from Waterbearer and it is one that you must see. We get a new kind of action hero as we watch the story of one man and how he yearns for a new beginning. Director Paul Bright gives us a new kind of film with a well chosen cast that acts its heart out—and seems to have great fun doing so.
