Maybe some wil love this film but some may hate it... For me, I really love it! I just love watching two guys discussing about their life, their conflicts and their pain. That is something rare to find in other films. James Marsden is perfect for his character in this film but although I like him better in Heights. Scott Speedman too done a good job here with his psycho character. The suspenses are there and I like the ending part. There are some facts that the film focus on: always play safe, beware of strangers (avoiding one night stand), and be responsible for you own body or actions...

WARNING: This film is one of the most emotional films dealing with the gay psyche and HIV/AIDS Syndrome! Very disturbing and totally emotionally draining! One of the Classics of the Gay Cinema to be sure! It will be remembered for some time to come! Not for the faint-of-heart to go to see! A total insight into the minds of the characters in the film is brought to the audience to such a realistic level as to be down right frightening! This really brings back reality, sometimes too well!! REALITY PROTRAYED UNERVINGLY!!!!

Appendend: If you have had to deal with HIV/AIDS on a personal level, this can really hit very hard!!

***3 STARS ((1)) Director, P.J. Castellaneta, did close to the same thing (minus the death threats) 13 years earlier in his 1991 release, "Together Alone." Here's how the two films line up: ((a)) 2 hunky guys (one married / one not---in both "24th" and "TA"). ((b)) A night of lovemaking (remembered+talked about in "24th" / actually in bed in "TA"). ((c)) AIDS as a factor (does he have it / does he not---in both films). ((d)) A night of philosophizing (what if this / what if not this---in both films). ((2)) Apparently 1991's "Together Alone" garnered even lesser acclaim than did "24th" (but Castellaneta did go on 7 years later to make a somewhat more successful 'number' you've probably heard of titled, "Relax......It's Just Sex"). Actually, "TA" has never made it to the DVD ranks from its original VHS video release (a visit to one of the larger online video resale sites will show only a very few 'used' tapes available). ((3)) Scott Speedman?? While still somewhat newer and 'a-learning' as an actor, it takes only moments to see the shock waves of guilt, sorrow, and anger this man throws off in his role as Tom. Wow! ((4)) James Marsden?? Dear gods, don't be jealous........for this man is so beautiful. (Just an aside: at times I find it almost difficult to look at him. While everyone's perception of beauty differs, to me this man is just plain arresting---watching him here and in "Heights" is almost too much). Nonetheless, his physical attributes are far surpassed by a freshness and depth of feeling, rare in such a young performer, which he brings to his dramatic roles, that of Dan being no exception. ((5)) Since I can add nothing more concerning performances and plot points than does a 4-Star review already here, I will mention only one character detail: Tom is, at his most basic and essential, a good and honest human being. That is never lost sight of in this film, and, I think, is meant to clue us in on the real way in which the film is intended to end.

When I heard about this movie and the great reviews it received, I was dying to watch it and I was sadly disappointed with what I saw. It was not the psychological journey I imagined it to be. The actors are known as intense and emotional actors but their capabilities did not come through in this film. I found the acting to be very dry and I personally expected more from both actors. The plot could have been excellent but it was drawn out for too long. As soon as the captor asked his visitor if he was always safe I knew what was going on. And how horrible to think that he would blame the man he had sex with for killing his wife and giving him a death sentence. It is a person's responsibility to know what does and does not go into his own body. Don't misunderstand me it was a promising movie but I think they focused on the wrong people in the movie maybe it should have been surrounded on the heterosexual couple and the result of his homosexual affair. I think that would have been a more fullfilling movie.
