Review

Coppola's passionate though heavy-handed Vietnam War film is a showcase for some four-star acting. Caan and Jones deliver powerful performances as cynical Arlington Honor Guard officers who refer to themselves as "toy soldiers" -- powerless to do anything about the onslaught of body bags except give them elegant funerals. Sweeney is the young officer itching to go to Vietnam: a gung-ho youngster who may not be ready for the experience.
