Flick's Chicks is a wonderful, genuinely sweet romantic comedy about one woman's fairytale-like quest for love. The film opens in an art class with Felickity, a.k.a. Flick, in an honest and funny inner-dialogue debate over a nude model's boobs; whether or not she's attracted to them, if that makes her a lesbian, and whether boobs smell good or bad (probably good, she decides). Dismissing the thoughts, Flick goes on an hilariously awful string of dates with some guys, only to notice Alex, the cute dyke waitress...

From then on, Flick's Sapphic destiny is confirmed as lesbians come crawling out of the woodwork everywhere she goes. She ends up meeting four women: smart-mouthed, Italian hard-ass Marissa from Brooklyn; a wild, sensual and talented African-American poet named Monique; the dred-headed, eccentric hippie dubbed "Snowphish"; and Chi Chi, an older Brazilian fox. Flick invites Alex and her four new gal pals over for a weekend at her Aunt's beach house. With all six women under one roof, and Flick's adorable ten-year-old daughter also thrown into the mix... well, as Snowphish says, "the mix of energies is exhilarating," and ridiculously funny!

Flick's Chicks, like many a romantic comedy before it, SCREAMS who Flick should end up with and takes the roundabout way to get there, but the scenic route is worth the trip. The comedy made me laugh out loud and some parts downright charmed the pants off me! The story is put together cleverly, and although the storyline of a straight woman discovering her lesbian identity has been completely beat to death, drug out of the grave and beat to death at least three more times, I must say that Flick's Chicks honestly does it differently. Flick actually, refreshingly, has some certainty in her lesbian choices and for once she's not having a secret affair, she's not escaping an abusive or dull husband, and she didn't discover an "unexpected romance." And especially for once, the story simply has a happy ending. If you love fairy tales with happy endings, good comedy, a little playful satire of lesbian life and having your pants occasionally charmed off you, then I highly recommend this "flick."
