Synopsis

Sandro Mantovani (photographer and journalist, 24) and Maykson Ribet (art director, 25), Brazilians of Italian descent, work out of London and Milan as leaders in the fashion industry.

Their credo: “We try to explore curves, muscle tone and, of course, an aesthetic context that enables us to travel in the fetish of every scene. Our lives are full of fetishes and we should try to live up to it as much as we can – live freely with no strings attached!” Enjoy is the product of five years of creative work.

Review

I hate giving books bad reviews but sometimes it just has to happen. For the first time in a long time a book has arrived from my favorite publisher of photo books, Bruno Gmunder, that I am not fond of at all.

Enjoy is a lukewarm effort put forth by a duo called Sandro & Maykson. Maybe it’s just me but the esthetic of this collection seems to be dated and reminds me of Ralph Lauren ads circa 1995. It seems all of the pictures in this book have been done before and it retains a certain commercial quality that lets it blend in with the slew of catalogs and magazines that land in my mailbox every day. I am sure these guys can take good pictures but they leave much to be desired here. Everything about this collection is average and, dare I say it, unoriginal. There is none of the European glam I was hoping for and it is actually quite generic.

I do have one positive for the collection -- some of the models are gorgeous! But, (you knew there was going to be a “but”) your money will be better spent on one of the other in a plethora of photo books coming out this season.
