Edmund White
Edmund White is one of the founding fathers of modern gay literature. In the mid '70s White and six other gay New York writers formed the Violet Quill, a casual club where the men could sharpen their writing skills with one another. During the '80s White lived in France, upon his return to the states he discovered the devastating effects of AIDS and the loss of many friends.
Considered by many to be one of the greatest gay authors of our time, White's work has a relevant place in every literary collection. Some of our favorites are the incomparable A Boy's Own Story and My Lives: A Memoir.
