E. Lynn Harris
Author E. Lynn Harris has left an indelible mark on the gay, literary and black communities. Born in Flint, Michigan he was raised, along with his three sisters, in Little Rock, Arkansas. His life was full of firsts such as being the first black yearbook editor at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, the Razorback's first black male cheerleader, and president of his fraternity.
After graduating, with honors, with a degree in journalism, Harris tried his hand at computer sales until eventually deciding to quit his day job and write his first novel, Invisible Life. Unable to find a publisher, Harris published the novel on his own and sold it (out of the trunk of his car) mostly to black–owned bookstores, beauty salons and book clubs before being discovered by Anchor books. The rest, as they say, is history.
Harris went on to publish several novels that hit the New York Times bestsellers list and he is the recipient of numerous accolades and awards. His unique perspective as an openly gay black man coupled with his undeniable writing talent has made him one of the most unique and beloved authors of this generation.
