Considered by many to be one of the most offensive gay-themed films ever made, Partners stars Ryan O'Neal as a straight detective who teams up with effeminate, in-the-closet desk cop John Hurt to go undercover as gay lovers to investigate a serial killer. A one-joke extravaganza of gay panic, this movie indulges in every conceivable homophobic stereotype. You have to see it to believe it. Watch it, wince and reflect proudly on how far we've come since 1982.

Reasons to Buy

  1. There are so many hilarious bad reviews of this movie. Rex Reed, bless him, called it "a crime against humanity in general and homosexuals in particular." Gene Siskel was also offended and called it one of the worst films of 1982.
  2. For better or worse, this movie is part of gay cinema history. It's certainly not pretty, but you'll probably have a ton of fun if you watch it with a big group of friends. Make it a midnight guilty pleasure.
  3. This is worth watching just for the curiosity factor. It's being released by Olive Films, who have released plenty of respectable gay films and understand the ironic appeal of Partners. Shocking by today's standards, you'll enjoy laughing at it, rather than with it.
