10 Year Plan, The

I must say right away that I am a huge J.C. Calciano fan and have been following his films since his very first. I have watched him into a serious filmmaker who both entertains and has something important to say. His success with "eCupid", "Is it Just Me?" and his wonderful web series, "Steam Room Stories" has taught us how to smile at ourselves and not take life so seriously.

Calciano's new film "The 10-Year Plan" has just finished its festival runs and now we can have our own copy of the "romance" between best friends and total opposites, Myles (Jack Turner) and Brody (Adam Hamilton). Myles is a true hopeless romantic who is looking for Mr. Right while Brody loves the chase and is just interested in Mr. Right Now. Each of us should see something of ourselves in these characters. Together they are the complete gay man and so they have a plan that if in ten years they are still single, they will be together but...ten years have passed and they are both still single. Even more than that, they both avoid becoming a couple.

Myles is a handsome successful lawyer in Los Angeles. His standards for the kind of man he is looking for are somewhat unbelievable-she seems to be looking for the perfect man. His dates do not seem to go anywhere and, in many cases, they end before they begin. Brody, a policeman, is a handsome guy with a killer body muscle bound hunky Policeman who looks for a different man every night. \After one disastrous date, they both agree that if they are not in relationships when they turn 35, they will get together in a monogamous relationship.

Calciano based his film on two friends of his who were in a similar arrangement. He changed some of the facts and gives us a fictional look at his friends' situation. Because Myles and Brody are such opposites, they do not see how wonderful they are for each other. Neither guy can move past his own issues and problems regarding love.

With the ten year period over Brody tries to push Myles into using Grindr to meet someone and when he does so, the result is not pleasing to Myles. Both Hamilton and Turner give excellent performances. This is what of those movies that pulls you in and keeps you there and I had to use just one word to describe it, I would have to say that it is "fun".
