This film about the daily, sometimes tragic lives of teenage runaways coexisting in Los Angeles is determinedly somber -- as are these kids' lives. And though the story covers little new ground of life on the street, the film possesses such grit and determination it has an immediacy which cannot be ignored. Mulroney, trading his handsome looks for that of a scraggly druggie, gives a startling performance as the leader of a small clique living by their wits, sleeping under freeway off-ramps, and scrounging for change and food. A youthful cast is impressive.
