Through a Glass Darkly

Andersson is mesmerizing as a recently released mental patient who, while vacationing on a remote island with her husband, brother and father, relapses into schizophrenia. This Oscar winner is one of Bergman's most intense and riveting films. (Swedish with English subtitles)
Winter LIght

This chilling and powerful story of despair is the second of Bergman's trilogy (the others two being The Silence and Through a Glass Darkly) and for people who want to go over the edge in depression, a double feature with Bresson's Diary of a Country Priest should do it. The story concerns a disillusioned pastor who loses his vocation and watches as his congregation crumbles along with his faith. (Swedish with English subtitles)
The Silence

An intense story of two sisters, emotionally and physically united since childhood, who, while traveling together, begin the struggle of separation. The younger woman seeks freedom from her embittered sister by entering into a relationship with a stranger. Last of Bergman's trilogy on faith which includes Through a Glass Darkly and Winter Light. (Swedish with English subtitles)
