Brosnan stars as a 19th-century British officer who goes undercover to investigate a series of ritual killings by the secret brotherhood of the Thuggees. Posing as an Indian, the officer infiltrates the fiendish sect and finds himself mysteriously drawn into its power, endangering not only his mission, but his life as well. At times a bit muddled, the film nonetheless is an often exciting and interesting sojourn to a little-traveled time in history.
