The film Minnelli directed in between his glorious Technicolor musicals An American in Paris and The Band Wagon is black-and-white melodrama of the highest studio order. It's a quintessential Hollywood story with Douglas as an ambitious (ruthless?) producer and his effect on an actress (Turner), a writer (Powell) and a director (Sullivan). Winner of five Oscars including Best Screenplay (Charles Schnee) and Best Supporting Actress (Graham).
