Has it really been 20 years since Eddie Murphy made his film debut? In that time, the comedian with the amazing box-office record has more than demonstrated a superior comic ability in films good, average and bad (we still say he was robbed of an Oscar nomination for The Nutty Professor, but we digress). But nothing -- nothing -- he's ever done (and hopefully will do) measures up to the sheer incompetence as this awful sci-fi comedy. He plays a nightclub owner (on the Moon) who is muscled out of the business and then must track down the man responsible. The idea of robots and spaceships and lunar travel probably sounded great on paper, but the execution is jaw-droppingly bad. And as if to compensate for no jokes and lackluster pacing, director Underwood lets Murphy chew the scenery, which he does with unbridled gusto.
