Director Eastwood leaves the wide open spaces of his beloved West for the last frontier of space to tell an entertaining tale of heroism and friendship. A highly enjoyable comic adventure, Space Cowboys could get its inspiration from John Glenn's history-making trip into space, made at the age of 77. The story follows four former test pilots who train for a space mission even though they've all been retired for years -- and have never been into space. Eastwood is the laconic leader of the group, an engineer whose knowledge of a crippled satellite makes him essential to its rescue. When he demands that his old crew (Jones, Garner, Sutherland) accompany him, they have a chance to realize a 40-year-old dream. Eastwood is in a lighter, breezier mood here, making the most of some genuinely funny moments that's performed by a relaxed, in-charge ensemble. These four veteran actors work splendidly together, able to switch from comedy to action mode -- two genres in which each has had great success -- without missing a beat.
