The proliferation of 8mm and Super 8mm movie equipment during the 1960s meant that many people now had the ability to project movies at home, and adult bookstores – like those in Times Square – quickly became a major conduit for the retailing of short, silent, 200 ft. and 400 ft. hardcore sex reels. In the days before videotape, the 8mm stag film – or “loop,” as it was often called – was the only means to effectively consume filmed hardcore pornography in an exclusively private context.

The films in the present collection represent a cross-section of 8mm stags such as one might have found for sale in a Times Square bookstore during the early to mid-1970s. Given the relative scarcity of these films on DVD, however, the present collection provides a valuable insight into the porno culture of the early 1970s and contains a number of unexpected cameos by some of the better-known figures of “Golden Age” porn.

The various stags collected together on Disc 1 offer a cross-section of New York, West Coast, and European-produced loops running the gamut from the sublime to the ridiculous. Most noteworthy are three New York loops found in the "Horny House Calls" collection. Also included are the "Horny Honies" and "Phoney Physicians" collections.

Disc 2 contains two collections – "Kinky Couples" and "Swingers" – each of which offers noteworthy selections. “Wild Ones at Home” might be one of the oldest films presented here, walking a cagey line between soft- and hardcore.
