Review

Full of in–jokes and references to countless splatter movies from the 1980s, Wes Craven's best film since A Nightmare on Elm Street works as homage, spoof, and as one scary horror film. Beginning as a slasher movie (with a terrific Drew Barrymore), the story soon becomes a murder mystery with plenty of red herrings. A masked killer is terrifying the town, killing teenagers and slowly working his (or her?) way to the traumatized daughter (Neve Campbell) of another local murder victim. In order to have a little fun, the remaining teens gather at a big house in the woods to watch horror movies, drink and get laid. The killer, of course, is there and all hell breaks loose. Destined to become a postmodern horror movie classic which will eventually be ranked along with Halloween and Dawn of the Dead.
