Skinopsis

Cult movie legend Alex Cox finally makes a (sort of) sequel to his surreal, nihilistic comedy masterpiece Repo Man! Repo Chick, which was shot entirely in front of a green screen, tells the tale of a spoiled, disinherited heiress who gets a job as a Repo Chick and accidentally ends up as the only one who can foil a notorious plot by vegan terrorists to blow up Los Angeles unless the government outlaws golf. Like most of Cox's films, there's no nudity and little in the way of graphic violence, but, even so, this is a must have for cult movie lovers! See below for official synopsis.

Spoiled rich girl Pixxi De La Chasse has been disinherited by her family due to her numerous arrests for bad driving, her failure to get a job and her overall lack of some semblance of a responsible life. When her car gets repossessed, Pixxi ends up getting hired by repo men Arizona Gray and Aquas, and she soon becomes the best repo chick around with the help of her entourage - punk girl confidante, model-looks bodyguard and flaming hair stylist. While on the hunt for some antique railroad cars which carry a million-dollar bounty reward (also being sought by a secret government agency!) clueless Pixxi ends up on a wacky train ride which is actually a plot by a terrorist organization. If their demands for the criminalization of golf are not met, then the train (whose caboose is carrying long-missing growler bombs from the Soviet Communist era!) is headed straight for downtown Los Angeles.

Review

Alex Cox re-visits the world of repossession professionals as a tool to explore generational malaise in Repo Chick, a companion film to Cox's bona fide cult classic Repo Man. While not exactly a sequel (though the films do share at least four actors in common), Repo Chick, like its predcessor, examines the cultural absence left in youth culture by a down economy.

Our heroine this time out is Pixxi, a Paris Hilton-esque celebutante, whose vindictive and equally vacuous and decadent family disinherits her in the opening of the film due to her notorious celebrity reputation and frequent arrests. Flanked by her posse of sexually ambiguous hangers-on, Pixxi sets out to reclaim her fortune only to stumble into a job as a Repo Chick. Much to everyone's surprise, Pixxi demonstrates a remarkable ability to repo even the largest and most complicated objects (as the film was shot entirely in front of a green screen, Cox is able to heighten the absurdity with comic moments of physically impossible jobs). Soon enough, she becomes obsessed with finding a set of train cars with a posted reward of $1,000,000.

Her search for the trains causes her to end up on a train populated by political dignitaries and vegan terrorists who plan to blow up Los Angeles unless the President of the United States and Congress both agree to become vegan and outlaw golf. Naturally, it's up to Pixxi to save the day.

Cox's point with all of this nonsense (and it is indeed nonsense) is twofold: first the nihilistic punk-infused spirit that led Repo Man's Otto to reject compassion and throw himself wholeheartedly into repossession has been replaced with an entirely materialistic obsession with wealth and fame: Pixxi takes the job in the first place in order to regain her wealth and status; she excels at it because the rich, powerful and entitled are very good at bullying and coercing the less fortunate into submission. But while the socio-political points of the two films may be similar, the inspiration and execution are not. Repo Chick simply can't match the bizarre inspired-weirdness and epic-seeming cultural commentary that its older cousin continues to possess. However, Repo Chick, while not matching the sheer brilliance of Repo Man still manages a few laughs and should not be missed by fans of the original.
