A savage, outrageous satire, this is a nightmarish political allegory about the excesses of the Stalinist era. A mysterious old woman defies the law and repeatedly exhumes the body of a recently deceased local chieftain. In a series of flashbacks, we learn that the much loved Georgian mayor was actually a despotic ruler, a Stalinist bully -- with the gestures of Mussolini and the mustache of Hitler -- who was content only with power, no matter the cost. An important, thought-provoking film. (Russian with English subtitles)
