To look at Ron Jeremy, one wouldn’t immediately peg him for one of the world’s most popular and prolific porn stars. Affectionately dubbed the "Hedgehog" (i.e., he’s squat, plump and hairy), Ron’s atypical schlubiness is a jolly rebuke to the buff, waxed, pretty-boy image of what women ostensibly find sexy. In an industry notorious for its savage narcissism, Ron is an anomaly, unlikely and shameless proof that even Average Joes — notably generously endowed ones — can get laid. This illuminating and often hilarious get-to-know-him documentary doesn’t offer up any vicious dirt on the porn industry, but rather paints a likable everyman portrait of the guy who’s starred in so many adult films — about 1,700 in the past 21 years, though nobody interviewed can quite recount exactly how many — he’s not only a cult legend, but he’s recognized and celebrated around the globe. From porn shoots to HIV tests, raucous frat-house testimonials to casual family conversations, talk show appearances to private fluffer sessions, we follow Ron as he follows his dream to constantly diversify his porn résumé with parts in TV shows and legitimate feature films. He comes off as one of the most doggedly driven actors in show biz, not to mention one of the luckiest, too.
