One of Capra's biggest commercial and critical successes pre-It Happened One Night, this bright comedy may be stagey but never fails to entertain. Harlow stars as an heiress who decides to do Pygmalion one better by marrying her subject -- down-to-earth newspaper reporter Williams. She vows to make him a gentleman, but finds her work cut out for her. Young is Williams' fellow reporter, who is secretly in love with him. Though Harlow's delightful performance would make her a full-fledged star (her nickname "platinum blonde" would stick till her untimely death), it is Williams who is the main attraction. With his Will Rogers-like plainness, Williams has a natural screen presence; tragically, he died a year later at the age of 35.
