The radical communist filmmaker behind Salo and The Decameron began his career as a poet and blossomed into one of the most revered Italian directors of all time. Pasolini produced a wealth of resonant philosophical and political masterpieces – and was even tried for offence to the Italian state after creating much controversy - until he was allegedly murdered under suspicious circumstances at the young age of 53.
