After writing a series of controversial newspaper articles on underage sexual abuse, young journalist Ji Won begins to receive threatening phone calls. She relocates and changes her phone number, but strange, unsettling calls continue. One call accidentally intercepted by her best friend’s very young daughter has a profoundly negative effect on the child. What at first appeared to be continued phone stalking by the criminals exposed in the newspaper articles now seems to be eerie, almost otherworldly phenomena attached to the new phone number itself. When Ji Won investigates previous owners of that phone number, she uncovers a disturbing history of weird occurrences, all starting with another young woman’s still-unaccounted-for disappearance. Stylish, slick, filled with truly effective creepy moments, solid performances (the little girl is amazing) and an involving storyline, Phone delivers all the trademark touches of contemporary Asian horror films.
