Call it what you may: Grumpy Old Presidents or In the Line of Fire of Grumpy Old Men; but My Fellow Americans, a predictable, puerile comedy about two feuding, ex-presidents on the run, manages to produce a few laughs in spite of itself. Lemmon and Garner, two of the most agreeable comic actors of their generation, rely mainly on their invaluable comedic instincts to almost pull this off. They play former commander-in-chiefs (and opponents) who, having individually discovered a cover-up by the current president (Aykroyd), flee together when they are almost assassinated by the Secret Service. Most of the film consists of them bickering as they try to elude the hit men, and each handles the one-liners and put-downs with charm and ease. For those who found enjoyment in the Grumpy Old Men series.
