Review

Although it is a far-fetched romance, Music from Another Room does feature some pretty sweet and sentimental moments. Danny (Law) is a mosaic tiler who reunites with the Swan family he knew briefly 25 years before. As a young boy, Danny helped deliver Anna Swan, and swore he would one day marry her. Now an uptight adult, Anna (Mol) is alternately drawn to and annoyed by this mysterious suitor who transforms the rest of her highly disfunctional family. While the central romance between the good-looking leads nearly sinks the film (Mol is miscast and Law lacks charisma), the episodes involving Anna's blind sister Nina (Tilly) are endearing. Writer-director Peters has made a noble effort, but the themes of kismet and taking chances are diluted by some painfully obvious clichés.
