Deep greens and beautiful forests dominate the frames of this remake, complete with yowling children and war paint. Director Hook displays his true forte, cinematography, paying more attention to picture than content. Detailing the regression of shipwrecked boys from an ordered existence into primitive, warring factions, this slightly updated version of William Golding's allegorical novel makes it to the screen with little change, except that the boys run around with glows-sticks instead of torches.
