Using the streets of downtown Los Angeles as a backdrop, Wim Wenders' emotional Land of Plenty is a darkly humorous and powerful examination of post-9/11 America. John Diehl gives a strong performance as Paul, a troubled Vietnam Vet who is haunted by events of September 11 and searches L.A. for terrorists he is convinced are going to strike again. Michelle Williams plays Paul's niece, Lana, who has been living in Israel and returns to L.A. to work at a homeless mission. Each is firmly dedicated to what they see is their job of making America better.
