Based on a true story, Tucci's Joe Gould's Secret is an intellectual literary game full of real human drama. Tucci stars as a New Yorker writer of human interest stories doing a piece on a New York legend, Joe Gould (Holm). Gould is an eccentric homeless man who has written an oral history that is known all around New York in literary and artistic circles. He camps out in friend's living rooms depositing pieces of his history everywhere. Tucci has woven a tale that entertains and enlightens. Both Holm and Tucci's performances are understated and brilliant in this moving but low-key drama.
