Review

A refreshingly hip and surprisingly innocent comedy about a day in the life of a group of black suburban teenagers who simply want to throw a party without getting hassled. The story revolves around Kid (Reid, from the rap duo Kid N' Play), who must sneak out of his house and avoid a gang of thugs. Although the plot is thin, this spirited and delightful musical/dance/comedy is even more impressive in that it shows black teens having fun without resorting to the stereotypes of them being druggies, criminals or impoverished. Harris is hilarious as Kid's overprotective, Dolemite-loving father. (Followed by 2 sequels)
