Where would the world be without gore, the best four letter word ever conjured? An even more frightening concept, what would this life be without the man who created it, the one and only H. G. Lewis! This documentary explores the fascinating career of Lewis, and the fabulously fucked up films he has spawned.

Always pushing the envelope, and tuned into where money is to be made, Lewis began his career with the then taboo “Nudie Cutie” genre. These films featured naked girls; naked girls sunning, naked girls cooking, naked girls just hanging out, and the men who loved to ogle them. The films were a smash, however it wasn’t long before Lewis realized that there was an untapped market lingering ahead. And thus, the very first splatter film, Blood Feast was created. Horrifying both movie goers and film critics, this game changing film opened the flood gates for classics such as 2000 Maniacs, The Gore Gore Girls, and Color Me Blood Red.

While this documentary is aimed at the true grindhouse horror fan, it certainly can be appreciated by the young and old, fanboy or not. Cast and crew interviews, often times from folks reliving the wildest days of their lives, are hilarious and engaging. Behind the scenes looks at some of the first splatter films are a treat, and for the first time ever we are allowed to preview scenes from the never finished Lewis film An Eye for an Eye.

I would say that the best part of this film is the gore, or maybe the almost constant stream of vintage boobie clips from the early nature films and nudie cuties, however that prize goes to the man H.G himself. His carnie like, sleaze ball charm is amazing! If anything, you should watch this film just to try and pick up a few tips from the man. Shit, I’d drop trouser for him any day. Film away, Mr. Lewis!
